Maybe you’re a champion dish washer, or a nimble-fingered diaper-changing ninja.

I have the same problem with domain names. I’ve been building credit union web sites for a long time, and over the years I’ve developed a lot of unwanted expertise in the area of untangling domain name and DNS messes. It’s never a pleasant process — the rules are insanely bizarre and the stakes are high.

At least not successfully. I was so bad at it, all you had to do was take one look at my face and you’d know. Every time I tried to cover something up, all I managed to do was get deeper in trouble.

So it should be no surprise that we are also interested in finding out where great ideas come from. Interestingly, it seems everyone has their own idea how ideas happen.

With creative work (concepts, copy, and design) it’s sometimes hard to tell the difference until you count the results. But creative quality is vitally important — excellent creative multiplies results, while poor quality creative can waste money and seriously damage your brand.

With Google’s help, they identified the top 500 search terms and used an algorithm to develop 25,000 misspellings of those words.* By buying ads on Google that appear when people mistype their searches, a viewer would see their misspelled word next to the web address youcantspellwhenyourehungry.com. In less than 2 days, they reached their target of a half million people. Genius.
