Psst…join me at the CU water cooler - November 25, 2009

cu-water-cooler-mastheadA couple years ago when Kent Dicken revealed his desire to start SharediDiz, like a loyal friend and client, I promised to contribute some content now and then to help him get it going. At the time, I had no idea what a meaningful role blogging would play in my career and life.

What started as a casual love affair with writing and sharing ideas, has grown into an insatiable appetite for creative inspiration. And this gluttonous thought junkie will go to just about any source to get my fix. As a result, I subscribe to dozens of blogs, seek out stories in news feeds, find the treasures on Twitter, and plunder through the dark corners of the CUniverse to share my bounty.

Fortunately, in my quest for a little wisdom and wit, I have serendipitously stumbled upon some of the most passionate people in the credit union movement who share this infatuation (ok, ok borderline obsession) with the charisma of CU Land’s conversation.

So, when Matt Davis (aka CU Warrior) told me about his idea for the CU Water Cooler, I was smitten.

Here’s how it works: Matt has assembled a dozen kool-aid drinking, industry information hounds from diverse pockets of Credit Union Land. The plan is that we’ll be keeping a reading list to share of the rare tidbits of information we sniff out. Then, a filter will find the common articles from all the content-wheedling info. jockeys that match, and they’ll automatically bubble up to the top. This leaves you with simply the best, purified content in perfect dixie cup sized servings.

In short, now you have a place you can go to get the skinny on what’s worth reading, saving you hours of time scrubbing the internet.

You can also listen to a weekly online radio / podcast where the weekly revelations will be discussed over a liquid lunch. Bottom’s up!

In the spirit of innovation, kudos to Matt Davis at the Filene Research Institute for coming up with such a powerful tool for all of us to use.

So, when you get thirsty for what’s going on in and around CU Land, come join me at the CU Water Cooler, where the best of the credit union movement’s content is bubbling up.

  1. We interrupt this program for a special announcement: « Cult-ivation — November 25, 2009 @ 11:21 am

[...] – brings joy, weirdness, rubber chickens and insight to every blog and bar she steps into – [...]

I can’t tell you how excited I am that you have agreed to be an editor. The beauty of this program is how collaborative/cooperative it is. No one voice can dictate the content. Instead, unique voices who have an endless thirst for credit union knowledge each have a democratic vote for the few stories each day truly worth reading. Many stories on Shared iDiz fit that bill – thanks for producing such great content, and for all of the support I know you will provide as this idea develops.
